Wedding Tiaras – Special Accessories For The Wedding Day

While preparing for her wedding day last October, Jo Thomas couldn't find those extra special accessories that would give the finishing touches to her outfit and those of her bridesmaids.

Jo was looking for a co-ordinated theme to run through the whole wedding entourage, from the bridesmaids' necklaces through to the best man's cuff links. Outraged by the cost and limited choice, Jo made a decision to start her own business and make accessories herself from her home workshop in Bedwas near Caerphilly.

Jo was fortunate enough to have taken a jewellery course in school, so she added her creative flair to designing customised and unique accessories for those extra special occasions. A friend, who makes wedding stationary, offered to test the market for her tiaras at a wedding fair that she was attending last Autumn and they proved to be so popular that the next step was to tap into the resources available locally to help her start her own business. She has attended a Business Skills course run by Venture Wales and also received a Business Start-up Grant from Caerphilly county borough council.

Cabinet Member Cllr Robert Gough said, I admire Jo's courage and determination in taking the decision to start up her own business. We offered her as much support as possible, but it seems Jo is more than capable of making this new venture a big success and we wish her all the best for the future.

With her confidence growing, Joanne became Chwarae Teg's role model to encourage other women to start their own businesses at the Self Employment Road Show and will be exhibiting alongside another Caerphilly-based business, Unique Boutique, at the biggest bridal show in Wales at the Millennium Stadium this Autumn.
